At Bidwell Mansion they hosted many guests that had an impact on America at the time. Guests included Susan B. Anthony, President Rutherford B. Hayes, and John Muir.

The Bidwells were also very generous people donating land to educate teachers that became Cal State University Chico as well as donating land for what is now called Bidwell Park.
